Las Cruces, NM The Las Cruces Railroad Museum and the New Mexico Humanities Council are proud to present Lesley Poling-Kempess lecture on the Harvey Girls and the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. The lecture will be held at the Las Cruces Railroad Museum at 10am on Saturday, May 3. She will share how the Santa Fe Railway and the Fred Harvey Company were responsible for the creation and promotion of the Mythic Southwest as a tourist destination. As well as, the Harvey Girls role in the opening of the West has become legendary, their lives forever linked with the Grand Canyon, Santa Fe, and the exotic and elegant resorts built along the railroad in the early years of this century. This program is made possible by the New Mexicos Humanities Council and the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. The Railroad Museum is located at 351 N. Mesilla Street (at Las Cruces Ave).
