Phyllis Wattis Distinguished Lecture
Kerry James Marshall, artist
Thursday, April 30 / 7 p.m.
Phyllis Wattis Theater

Founded in 1995 through the generosity of Phyllis Wattis, this lecture series brings innovative writers, critics, and artists to SFMOMA. Marshall is the first recipient of SFMOMA’s new Art in the Atrium commission. His rich and varied work addresses black history and racial identity and questions the paucity of African American voices in histories of the United States. The artist discusses his two new murals created for the Haas Atrium, which depict the estates of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.
