David Nash is one of the world's leading sculptors. Based in Wales, he is best known for large wooden works that he makes with a chainsaw and an axe, and sometimes a torch to burn and blacken them. He has also created several works of land art. Nash will host a conversation that takes place over two evenings, and it is hoped that attendees will come to both events. On October 1 he will host screenings of two rare documentaries on his work that draw an intimate portrait of his artistic approach and methods. Afterward the audience will be encouraged to write down questions for him, which he will use as a springboard for an active and informed discussion on October 8. Haines Gallery in San Francisco will open a solo exhibition devoted to Nash's work on October 9.
