Learning Digital Photography
Level One - Exposure

The first step in learning photography is to understand exposure. In essence, we need to capture the right amount of light for the right length of time and at the right speed. Simple enough, yet complex enough to be deserving of a full day lesson.

This class will be run over 4 days for 1½ hours per day. The plan is to have two days in the classroom followed by two days outside shooting and practicing what you've learned. Class size is significantly limited to assure personalized attention when we are out shooting.

What you'll learn in this class

I'll lead you through basic photography to make sure you understand how to make a correct exposure. How to use your shutter speeds, f/stops (aperture) and ISO in conjunction with the correct white balance to create properly exposed images every time.

This seminar is geared towards providing you with the basics of photography from the ground up as they relate to Digital (and Film) cameras. Here's some of the many topics we'll discuss:

· ISO - What it is and how to select the right setting.

· White Balance, understanding it and using it effectively.

· Setting the f/stop, shutter speed, and ISO to achieve the correct exposure.

· Taking great photographs in some of the worst conditions.

· How to come home from your vacation with photos that you'll want to share with everyone.

· Getting professional looking results with a basic camera.

· Buying the camera that best fits your needs and photographic interest.

This photo was taken with a Canon 20D digital cameraThis is just an outline of the topics we'll discuss. We'll discuss various cameras to help you understand every topic more thoroughly. You'll have the opportunity to get your questions answered in a way that will be meaningful.

We're going to talk about photographing your friends and family, your pets, your car, your house, nature, and just about anything that you might want to photograph. If you have a camera I encourage you to bring it along so you can get practice on your own camera as we move through these topics.

Please come prepared with a notepad as you may want to take notes on some our discussion. Be prepared to be outside for 1½ hours on the second 2 days (weather permitting) and dress appropriately. If the weather does not cooperate with us, we'll do our hands-on work indoors.

This Class will run 4 nights, for 1½ hours per day.

Class starts at 6:00 each evening and will end around 7:30. Our evenings out on the road to shoot will be meeting at locations to be announced during class.

PLEASE WATCH FOR NEWS & UPDATES TO BE POSTED ON THIS SESSION. You'll find the news (if any) on the right column of this listing.
