The fifth concert of Le Salon de Musiques’ 3rd season on February 10 is sponsored by the Consulate General of Poland in Los Angeles and will feature Frank Bridge’s Fantasy Piano Quartet and the US Premiere of Juliusz Zarebski’s Piano Quintet in G Minor op 34. The piece was first re-introduced to European audiences in 2011 by the great Argentine pianist Martha Argerich during her annual Martha Argerich Project in Lugano. The concert will be introduced by musicologist Julius Reder Carlson and performed by Tereza Stanislav and Sarah Thornblade on Violins, Rob Brophy on Viola, Cecilia Tsan on Cello and Steven Vanhauwaert on piano. The performance will be followed by a one-hour informal conversation between the musicians and the audience where they can share ideas, concepts and impressions about the music performed while sipping French Champagne and enjoying a gourmet buffet prepared by Patina.

Juliusz Zarebski, born in 1854, was a child prodigy. After graduating from the Vienna Conservatory with gold medals in 1872 he studied with Franz Liszt in Rome. He became one of his favorite students and they performed professionally together. Zarebski’s Piano Quintet in G Minor op 34 was composed in the last year of his life as he died at the age of 31 of tuberculosis. The piece was first re-introduced to European audiences in 2011 by the great Argentine pianist Martha Argerich during her annual Martha Argerich Project in Lugano. It will have its US premiere on February 10 at Le Salon de Musiques.
