'Le Cabaret de Carmen' is a dark and witty portrayal of the destructive power of sexual lust. This production is based on Peter Brook's infamous version first premier in the 1980s, with a new book by American Opera Theater Artistic Director Timothy Nelson. With the theater transformed into a Paris cabaret, Bizet's immortal masterpiece becomes a series of cabaret performances by a sultry and sexually ambiguous personae, Mademoiselle Carmen, and the crooning Seigneur Escamillo.
