Photographer Laurie Simmons uses ventriloquists’ dummies and children’s dolls to investigate domesticity and gender conformity, evoking narratives of alienation. Her first film, The Music of Regret, a mini-musical based on her photography, premiered at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 2006 and screens at the Hammer this season.
