Latin dancing for those who like variety (not just salsa), aren't wild about bars, like mixers, like it casual & friendly!

Scott of Friday Night Waltz sez:

I have been to most of the bay area salsa clubs and always left dissatisfied. Most of the clubs are bars, most are tacky, the feeling is often unwelcoming, and most have extremely fast, almost all salsa dancing.

I enjoy the warm, friendly atmosphere we have had at Friday Night Waltz, and had always thought there were other people who prefer a range of Latin dancing but were turned off by the hard, flashy, unfriendly atmosphere of most local salsa dance places.

So I am starting LatinMX. The MX stands for mix, as in having a mix of latin dances, including salsa, samba, merengue, cha cha, and rumba, as well as many fun but rarely seen dances like rueda, paso doble, cumbia, bachata, bolero, lambada, and zouk. We are also including many different kinds of latin dance mixers, birthday jams, and a latin line dance. We are introducing a flirtatious, choreographed rumba, "The Havana" (like a latin Congress of Vienna).

Like Friday Night Waltz, we will have two simultaneous classes from 7 to 9, an introductory class for first timers, and also an intermediate class also from 7 to 9pm, with DJ music from 9 to 11. Like FNW, no partner is needed for LatinMX. We rotate rapidly in class.

Anna Botelho (nee Anne Remsen) a long time and popular Friday Night Waltz dance instructor and dj, will be teaching the intermediate classes and also is the primary DJ. Her latin classes before previous Friday Night Waltzes have been well attended. She has had very extensive competitive Latin ballroom dance experience, and has taught all forms of latin dancing at many bay area ballrooms.

The cost is $12 for all classes and dances, $10 for both classes only, $8 for dance only. Casual comfortable attire. Cold water and light refreshments are provided.

The class and dance are held at the First United Methodist Church, 625 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94025. The cross street is Byron which is one block off University and Middlefield near downtown Palo Alto. Entrance to the upstairs ballroom is in the main church courtyard, with the stairs entrance facing AWAY from the street on the right
