Lakewood, CO - This season, Sounds Exciting! is anchored by two bands that bring back some of the greatest music of the 20th century, ‘50s rock ‘n’ roll from Flash Cadillac, and ‘60s folk music from The Folk Collection. The music of these bands complements the historic site of the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Amphitheater’s home at Lakewood’s Heritage Center, a 20th Century Museum that showcases the history of Lakewood and the many changes, inventions and lifestyles of the last century. The Colfax Hub, which serves as the entrance walk to the amphitheater, interprets the famous street’s commercial development in the ‘50s and ‘60s with buildings and exhibits from that era.

Kicking off the 2010 season is The Folk Collection on June 30. A three-part-harmony folk group, the Folk Collection pays tribute to the songs made famous by The Kingston Trio, The Limeliters, Peter, Paul & Mary, John Denver and the other great artists of the folk era. The show promises to be nostalgic and entertaining.

Next in the lineup is longtime, local favorite Hazel Miller, back for her ninth concert at Sounds Exciting! on July 7. Hazel has been a sought after performer in Colorado for the past 24 years. Whether she is singing blues, jazz, pop, or gospel, her voice charges the songs with a primal dose of genuine soul.

On July 14, DOTSERO hits the stage. Taking their name from a small town in the Rocky Mountains and meaning “something unique,” DOTSERO’s contemporary jazz is full of life, energy and spontaneity. The band has performed at major jazz festivals across the globe and at world famous venues like Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Soul Sacrifice Band proudly pays tribute to Latin-rock trailblazers Santana on July 21. Santana came out of San Francisco in the 1960s and is still a creative force to be reckoned with today. With great passion and precision, Soul Sacrifice Band faithfully recreates the music of Santana and burning renditions of Latin-infused rock classics such as “Oye Como Va” and “Black Magic Woman.”

The spirit of the West comes to Lakewood on July 28 with Sons and Brothers Band. Rooted solidly in the mountain West, the band describes its brand of music as “West Grass” – songs with Western and gospel themes, fused with a unique playing style that draws from genres as diverse as bluegrass, swing, country and rock 'n' roll. The band is literally sons and brothers of the Wolking family from Westcliffe, Colorado.

Closing the season on August 4 is Flash Cadillac. The original Flash Cadillac started playing classic ‘50s rock for the first time at a frat party in Boulder on March 7, 1969. By 1971, the band was headed for Los Angeles to find fame. Within months of its arrival, the band appeared on “American Bandstand” and in 1973, Flash Cadillac made its movie debut when the band played on screen in “American Graffiti.” Five years later they contributed to the soundtrack of “Apocalypse Now” and also made television appearances, including “The Tonight Show” and “Happy Days.”

In 1976, Flash Cadillac decided to leave Hollywood behind and return to its roots in Colorado. The band purchased a large ranch near Westcreek, Colorado, where band members built a state-of-the-art recording studio. In recent years, band members have blended their brand of rock ‘n’ roll with symphony orchestras to create a one-of-a-kind sound.

Concert Reminders

• Concerts start at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m.

• Parking is free.

• There is no structured seating available; feel free to bring your own chair or blanket.

• To facilitate viewing by all patrons, a limited seating area will be available for chairs with the top of the back of the chair measuring more than 32 inches from the ground or chairs with legs measuring over 5 inches.

• A variety of affordable food options will be available for purchase, or feel free to bring your own picnic.

• Wine, beer, water and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

• No pets, glass containers or bicycles allowed in the gated area.

• Programs subject to change

Season discounts apply to adult tickets only. Adult tickets include adults, seniors and students ages 13 and over. Concerts will be held rain or shine and are subject to change. No refunds or exchanges. All phone, fax, mail and online orders subject to a $5 handling charge. Online orders also subject to a per ticket service charge.
