Lakewood Cultural Center Celebrates 10 Years

On September 12 with a Free Open House

The Lakewood Cultural Center will be celebrating 10 years in the community with a free Open House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2009. Over half a million people have attended events at the Cultural Center since it opened its doors in September 2000. Friends and families are invited to join the anniversary celebration with a day filled with plenty to see and do.

Live entertainment and hands-on art projects for adults and kids will be featured on the plaza.

Events within the Cultural Center will showcase the Bravissimo! exhibit, highlighting retrospective collages, posters, art and artifacts of the Cultural Center’s first 10 years. Don’t miss the chance to get a glimpse behind-the-scenes with a theater tour, a visit backstage and a stop at the “Wall of Fame.” See how a production comes together with live demonstrations on theater make-up and costumes as well as sound and light equipment stations and sample director’s notes of scripts, lighting and sound cues. A kids’ costume dress-up area will provide the opportunity for children to create their own plays and musicals. Also enjoy art demonstrations including throwing clay on a pottery wheel, papermaking and oil and watercolor painting. And of course there will be plenty of refreshments for everyone.

Cultural Center Administrator Susan Martin oversaw the Cultural Center’s opening in 2000. “I have watched the Cultural Center become a vibrant treasure in our community, a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We hope you can join us to celebrate our 10 years together.”
