Witty, inspiring, enlightening, and fun…these are the films of 1936 the year the iconic Lake Theatre first opened its doors in the heart of downtown Oak Park. The film series gives patrons a rare opportunity to experience these classic films as they were originally meant to be seen – on the big screen in a historic theatre.

My Man Godfrey stars William Powell and Carole Lombard. Spoiled rich girl Irene Bullock (Lombard) picks up someone she assumes is a bum as part of a scavenger hunt and decides to keep him on as the family butler. In the process, Godfrey (Powell) teaches her about life, money and happiness – and that everything is not as it seems. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including all four acting categories. It is ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the top comedies of all time.
