OLD STATE HOUSE COMES TO LIFE WITH NEW SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
La Sylva to Perform Handel Recorder Sonatas at the Old State House on July 20
Who: The Bostonian Society, in partnership with Newton Baroque, presents the Old State House Summer Concert Series 2007.
What: La Sylva, with flautist Sarah Cantor, harpsichordist Andrus Madsen, and Angus Lansing on Viola da Gamba, will perform Handel's delightful Sonatas for Recorder, which were among his favorite compositions—bits and pieces of them turn up throughout his concertos and oratorios. This witty, playful music shows Handel at his best.
When: Friday, July 20 at 12:30 p.m.
Where: The Old State House, 260 Washington Street (Corner of State and Congress Streets) in Downtown Boston
Why: This summer, the Old State House will come to life with live performances of 18th century music. This series of three concerts, presented by The Bostonian Society in partnership with Newton Baroque, will offer music that was popular in Boston and may have been played in the Old State House during the colonial period. Newton Baroque director Andrus Madsen will provide commentary throughout the concerts to place the music in historical context.
Admission: Free with admission to the Old State House
