Film noir was as much about nihilistic sad-sacks who couldn't catch a lucky break as it was about expressionistic cinematography. The genre made its name telling the stories of the world's corrupt cops, homicidal strippers, and alcoholic detectives. LA then, with its many scheming dreamers, is an ideal setting for the 8th Annual Festival of Film Noir. The event features screenings of rare gems, appearances by a host of writers and directors, and an opening-night discussion with neo-noir fiction master James Ellroy.
