Since his debut just ten years ago, Kurt Elling has risen to international prominence as a jazz artist through critically acclaimed performances as well as recordings on the Blue Note label. Kurt Elling's rich baritone voice spans four octaves and displays an astonishing technical facility and emotional depth. Elling has an awesome command of the rhythm, texture, phrasing and dynamics, often sounding more like a virtuoso jazz instrumentalist than a singer. Elling released his first album for Blue Note Records, Close Your Eyes (1995), to widespread acclaim and garnered his first Grammy Award nomination. His five subsequent Blue Note recordings also received Grammy Award nominations. Elling's latest recording, his first for Concord Records, was released last month.
