The series focuses on the origins of Orientalist art and its proliferation in the nineteenth century following Napoleon's military campaign in Egypt. It also examines how art has been used as an instrument in nation-building leading up to and following the French Revolution, as well as how art helped form stereotypes and marginalized cultures. Art historians Rebecca Albiani and Koyla Rice lead the six-week series.
