Based in San Francisco and Italy, Kate Eric is a decade-old collaborative identity comprised of Kate Tedman and Eric Siemens. Through their joint work, the artists conflate both their backgrounds in science and philosophy to create other-worldly landscapes that transcend our human scale, depicting either minuscule molecular-like interactions or seemingly quite the opposite--the dynamics of the cosmos and the universe. The artists' understanding of the world deems these two major forces (the micro-molecular and macro-cosmos) to have similar and parallel laws; they also consider that human interaction, often viewed as an infinitely complex psychological tangle, can be reduced to those same laws of vectors, forces and masses. "We believe human conflict has much of the same visual signifiers as nature and the cosmos," they explain. This first museum exhibition of Kate Eric will present a small survey of early work, where the human figure was somewhat present, to the latest, which is quite devoid of human life.
