Grammy-nominated jazz singer Karrin Allyson has been called “a complete artist—one of the world’s finest” (Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times), and she’s been acclaimed for her fearless yet sure-footed musical adventurousness ever since her 1992 debut, I Didn’t Know About You. On her brand-new CD, Imagina (Songs of Brasil), which is drawing high praise, Karrin returns to the Brazilian repertoire that she has so effectively explored on several previous recordings. Concentrating on Jobim compositions, but also including songs by Vinícius de Moraes, Edu Lobo, and Luiz Bonfá, Allyson completely inhabits this beautiful music, singing in both Portuguese and English. Her Yoshi’s shows, at which Karrin will be supported by her trio (Larry Koonse, guitar; Tom Warrington, bass; Todd Strait, drums), are sure to be special occasions—as always.
