Karen Blixt has spent the past ten years making a name for herself as one of the jazz scene’s most respected and successful vocalists. High off of the phenomenal debut of her album, Spin This, Karen Blixt takes the stage at one of LA’s premiere jazz spots – the Catalina Jazz Bar and Grill – performing on Tuesday, February 20th at 8:30PM.

For this appearance at Catalina Jazz Bar and Grill, Karen has enlisted an all-star line-up of celebrated musicians, the majority of whom also played on debut disc, Spin This. The impressive collective of special guests accompanying Karen at her Catalina performance includes Alex Acuña (percussion, drums), Abraham Laboriel (bass), Will Kennedy (drums), Sheldon Brown (bass clarinet), and Frank Martin (piano, keyboards). Martin also served as Karen’s key collaborator on Spin This, both producing and arranging the album, in addition to co-writing the CD’s three original tracks with Karen.

Since it’s debut, Spin This has been named at top pick by Jazz Times, placed number one on LA’s own KCRW’s airplay charts, and scored numerous raving reviews from media outlets across the country. Most recently, Karen played the San Jose Jazz Festival and was featured on CNN/Comcast’s coverage of the festival. She has performed with Bobby McFerrin on his score for the Academy Award® -winning film, Common Threads, in addition to singing extensively throughout the distinguished Northern California jazz community.
