Get into the Halloween spirit as the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra (KVSO) accompanies the 1920 silent horror film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at the Paramount Theatre, located at 213 N. Schuyler Avenue, on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 7:30 PM. The program will also include a cartoon and newsreel plus a 1925 short featuring Stan Laurel, Dr. Pyckle and Mr. Pryde, also accompanied by KVSO.

One of the most sophisticated and frightening films from 1920s cinema, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is an adaptation of the 1886 novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the Robert Louis Stevenson tale of a man who takes a potion which turns him from a mild-mannered man of science into a crude homicidal maniac. The film was directed by John S. Robertson and follows the story of a split personality, with Dr. Jekyll a kind and charitable man who believes that everyone has two sides, one good and one evil. Using a potion, his personalities are split, with the evil Mr. Hyde creating havoc. Tickets are $20 for the screening and are available on the KVSO website at www.KVSO.org.

To make the festivities even spookier, there will be a horse-drawn hearse followed by a parade of movie monster mourners in 1920’s and 1930’s garb, played by the Kankakee Valley Theatre Group.

Before the screening, KVSO is hosting a Halloween Party at 164 North Restaurant, 164 N. Schuyler Ave. On Sunday, a Halloween lecture is planned. Lecture and dinner packages are also available. For more information, please visit www.KVSO.org.

The Mission of the KVSO is to promote interest in good music for the enjoyment of the people in the local area, coordinate symphonic and ensemble music in the local area, to educate children and adults in symphonic and ensemble music and to generally promote interest in fine music of the people of the community.
