K-9 Club's Penn Valley Dog Park Adopt-A-Park Celebration April 30, 2005

Saturday, April 30th, local business K-9 Club and employees of Kansas City Parks and Recreation will hold a ?park blitz? of improvements at Penn Valley Off-leash Dog Park to herald the official beginning of a partnership between K-9 Club and Parks and Recreation through the Adopt-a-Park program.

Volunteers will also participate in the cleanup and maintenance efforts, which will include removal of tree stumps, dead limbs, tree line debris, foreign growth, leaves along the fence line, and any litter or dog waste. The two entrances will be raked and re-mulched. Following the blitz, Parks and Recreation will provide a picnic lunch of hot dogs and chips for the volunteers, and brainstorm about future projects.

Parks and Recreation invited K-9 Club to adopt the park last month, and owner Amy Bentz has signed a two-year contract to maintain the partnership. It was a natural step, since K-9 Club was already working closely with employees of Parks and Recreation on park issues; the relationship has already produced new picnic tables and a portable toilet at the park. Additionally, since its inception in July 2004, K-9 Club has sponsored twice-monthly cleanups at Penn Valley Off-Leash Park, and donated ten to twenty gallon jugs of fresh water a day, which it will continue to do until the long-anticipated water fountain is installed.

K-9 Club is Kansas City?s only off-leash play club for dogs, providing more exercise and socialization than ordinary dog walkers, and more personal attention than traditional dog daycare. Play groups of three to five dogs matched by temperament and energy level are escorted to Penn Valley Off-Leash Park three times daily. K-9 Club is a member of Pet Sitters International and the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. It is certified through the American Red Cross in Pet First Aid and CPR, and it is licensed, bonded, and insured.
