The Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou?s Jazz Alley presents for one night only, Brazilian singers, songwriters and guitarists Joyce and Dori Caymmi, touring in support of their new album Rio-Bahia. Band members include Marcos Silva (keyboard), Rodolfo Stroeter (bass) and Tutty Moreno (drums). Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7:30pm.

Rio Bahia (2005, JVC Japan/Far Out) is a passionate love chant of Joyce and Dori, two old-school Cariocas (Rio natives), to their Rio/Bahia roots and this album is a tale of two cities, both beautiful but both suffering with the challenges of metropolitan life.

With two nominations to the Grammy Latino and the Brazilian International Press Lifetime Achievement Award singer, composer and guitarist Joyce is a musical treasure of Brazil. She has been described as ?a sophisticated urbanite, whose personal musical style was nurtured in Rio?s fertile jazz/samba scene?. Her sound combines Brazilian rhythms, jazz harmonies and intelligent lyrics through a beautifully expressive voice.

Joining Joyce on her much anticipated return to the Northwest, is guitarist, singer, composer and two-time Grammy Award Nominee Dori Caymmi, son of the great Brazilian composer Dorival Caymmi. Joyce?s main guitar influence and inspiration, Dori was a musical prodigy from an early age. Teaching himself the fundamentals, it?s not surprising that his early musical influences include people like Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Gilberto. At age 17, Caymmi began composing music for Brazilian TV and over the years, he became one of the country?s most respected arrangers and composers.
