There were a lot of people onstage during the Jonas Brothers' Tuesday night set at the Izod Center in East Rutherford.

A 10-piece band, including two string players and four horn players, backed the three brothers. Opening acts Jordin Sparks and the band Honor Society returned to the stage to make brief appearances.

But one of the most compelling moments came when Nick Jonas -- the youngest of the brothers, at 16 -- sat alone at a piano, accompanying himself as he sang the introspective ballad "Black Keys."

Nick shares lead-vocal duties in the band with Joe Jonas, 19. (Kevin Jonas, 21, concentrates on guitar). Joe is a smooth singer and a charismatic frontman, and is blessed with movie-star looks, but Nick has the kind of soulful, emotionally revealing vocal style that can make a ballad like this work.
