Sculpturesite Gallery is pleased to present recent free-standing and wall hung works in ceramic by John Toki, ranging from 24 inches to over 14 feet, both indoor in the gallery, and outdoor on Convention Plaza. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 17th from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Born in the Bay Area into a family that savored the rich Japanese tradition of ceramics, John Toki has worked in clay for over 35 years. Toki is a respected studio artist and adjunct professor at the California College of the Arts (CCA) in Oakland since 1993.

Toki's large-scale sculptures in clay and porcelain possess a timeless quality, inspired from forms found in nature (mountains, water, snow, sky) and suggest archaeological elements, yet they have a unique freshness in their technical complexity and resulting visual appeal. His work has been shown in the US, the Netherlands and Japan.

A powerful 14 foot tall piece with complex detailing on both sides that Toki completed just days before the installation will be displayed on Convention Plaza, near the gallery's entrance. Several wall hung (or supported) pieces are also presented, including "Earth Dream", which at 12'6" in height, will dominate the gallery's west wall. Toki has also created pedestal sized works for collectors who lack the space for his monumental sculptures.
