In 1974 the artist John Divola began the first of three highly ambitious and original bodies of work included in his new Aperture book: John Divola: Three Acts. The first series called Vandalism comprises photos of interiors of abandoned houses in the Los Angeles area. This was followed by LAX Noise Abatement, which documents break-ins in a condemned neighborhood close to LAX airport; and Zuma which captures the destruction of an abandoned beachfront property on Zuma Beach. Divola will discuss his art practice, which combines painting, performance, and photography.

John Divola is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, four National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, and a California Arts Council Individual Artist Grant, among other awards. His work is in numerous museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. He is a professor of art at the University of California, Riverside.
