A hard-working, fresh and completely original American folk singer, Joe Purdy has released ten albums in eight years, most recently releasing them on his own. The songs on these albums have earned spots on TV shows like House, Lost and Grey’s Anatomy but on stage Purdy’s show is just “simple stories told by somebody with a guitar,” he says. His timeless and rustic tunes often feature delicate fiddle, mandolin and harmonica in such a way that it’s impossible to truly place when they were written and recorded. He’s a poetic folk rocker from a time long ago, with a careful, stripped-down approach to music. He told the Washington Post, “I wanted the music to sort of float around the vocals and not get in the way of anything. I wanted it to sound like an old record off an old record player [so I worked] very much within those frequencies.” We’ve been hoping Purdy would be able to drop by StageOne for some time, and we think he’ll fit right in.
“You can literally feel your heart soar or be ripped to shreds while listening to the reverence in his voice; his music is extraordinarily powerful.” -Examiner.com
