I hate poetry. Somebody's dog dies. Somebody's goldfish leaps out
of the pond. A disaster. An emergency. Someone sits on a cactus.
Lots of red lights and sirens. But I like Marc Jampole. I heard him
read in Pittsburgh, and nobody's dog died. He creates these little
word puzzles and stories torn out of the Times that resonate with me.
Go, take a listen, and even if you're not a poetry fan, you may find
out that poetry can be so much more challenging than that personal
stuff. He reads with a great deal of passion, his poems are not about
himself, and his book is fun.

If you pick up Marc Jampole's book, "Music from Words," you can see that he has a background in television news reporting which should tip you off that he knows how to tell a story with panache. I loved the book, and hearing him read is truly an unforgettable experience. Some of his poems will break your heart as he shifts from speaker to speaker in a cauldron of sound, and others will simply delight with their plays on language. Stage presence, verve, worth checking out. Put it on your calendar - you don't want to miss coming to this reading. Albert.
