San Francisco, known for being one of the most progressive towns in the USA, finds itself at the seat of power with its own congresswoman, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House.  The irony is, to many San Franciscans, including local musician and songwriter, JL Stiles, Pelosi has been more of a supporter of Bush and his administration than a stand for progressives.  This was the exact reason Independent Cindy Sheehan moved to San Francisco to take on Pelosi for her seat in congress.  To raise awareness for Cindy's campaign, JL Stiles is headlining a show at Café du Nord, hoping to draw some attention to the real choice San Franciscans have for congress.

According to Stiles, "This is a small city and many of us support Cindy, who supports us de-militarizing in the middle east and holding Bush and Cheney accountable for their crimes.  But she also supports reigning in the media monopolies and curtailing our free trade agreements.  From education to living wages and the environment, Cindy's a true progressive and totally grassroots candidate, untied to the corporate machine.  She reflects the values of most San Franciscans, which is why I want to make some noise about her.  San Francisco can rock the political world by voting for Cindy."

The probable future if no one supported Cindy's campaign is Pelosi gets elected with but a murmur of protest and resignation reigns supreme about people's actual power in politics.

"Du Nord represents the San Francisco local music scene well and is a great choice for some grassroots action to raise awareness for Cindy and give voters a choice.  We don't have to lay down and accept Pelosi's policies which is why I appreciate Cindy's campaign." Says Stiles.

Jodi Jackson - JJ Entertainment, JL Stiles publicist, says  "I am urging people to come out to hear JL Stiles uplifting music in support of Cindy Sheehan, and to make your own voice heard, this is very important stuff!”

JL Stiles, a progressively oriented roots and folk singer and guitarist, has been on the San Francisco music scene for years.  He will be appearing on SF local cable show called “Open Mic” on Oct. 2, and was also heard on Derk Richardson’s KPFA radio show in early September. He will be bringing his band in to Café du Nord, the same band who regularly knocks the socks off crowds at the Mystic Theater in nearby Petaluma.  Also on the bill will be the outrageous pop singer and ukulele player, Rose Harting, who takes her incredible voice and stage presence to the front of a completely rocking outfit.  Cindy Sheehan will also be making a special appearance on the scene.   Should be a unique and informative night at du Nord.
