Eight American photographers from five major U.S. universities were selected in 2009 to travel to France or one of its overseas collectivities such as Tahiti, in order to absorb and depict French culture from bold new perspectives. They covered six distinct French destinations including the cities of Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Lille, Arles, and Toulon, in addition to Tahiti.

Under the direction of eminent photography curator Tim Wride, the goal was to blend fresh artistic points of view with unfamiliar cultures, and the resulting images are often startling.

All students or recent graduates of Art Center College of Design, Otis College of Art and Design, California Institute of the Arts, Parsons School of Design and Loyola University.

The first exhibit, featuring 66 photographs, will premiere April 7-21, 2010 at Louis Stern Fine Arts in Los Angeles, with additional dates to be added in New Orleans and New York.
