Returning to painting after several years of experimentation in sculpture, Jeff Starr’s oeuvre includes movie star portraits, representations of tree stumps, and sculpted heads of young artists and musicians. References to human habitations, as seen in his paintings for MCA DENVER, are a new area of interest for Starr. He combines realistic and imagined occupied terrain, resulting in a surrealistic built environment that is distinctly his own – located somewhere between reality and fantasy.
