Oakland - San Francisco – Hailed for its spirited performances and its fascinating fusion of Latin and folk rhythms with adventurous jazz explorations, The Snake Trio gives voice to the hidden treasure of Venezuelan music. The group is committed to raising that voice and exploring the connection between North American jazz, traditional Venezuelan songs and original musical ideas. Jackeline Rago (Cuatro/Mandolin/ Bandola/Percussion), Donna Viscuso (Flute/Alto Saxophone), and Saul Sierra (Bass) defiantly ignore musical boundaries to create a new direction that journeys the infectious rhythms of joropo and swing, gaita and soul and be-bop and calypso among many others.

"Jazz at the Chimes” is a monthly series sponsored by the Lifemark Group Arts program that features Bay Area talent. Concerts are held at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland – a designated City of Oakland Landmark designed by Julia Morgan. The Chapel provides a wonderful visual backdrop and acoustic listening venue for live music in a setting like no other.

Press quotes:

"Latin Jazz with a cool Venezuelan twist that will have you savoring your Coltrane with joropo and your Ellington with calypso" — Jesse "Chuy" Varela

“The accuracy of rhythm, the lightening fast starts, stops and mid-course changes is breathtaking. The Snake Trio is not to be missed.” – Douglass Nesland

“I loved The Snake Trio from the very beginning. All three are true virtuosos with a whole lot of soul”—Avotcja, “La Verdad Musical” KPFA, Berkeley
