JAZZ and LE PETIT CINEMA: TREE+0 and FUTURE SHORTS

Friday, October 12th

Luke Westbrook’s TREE+0 is an experimental jazz guitar trio that makes its home somewhere on the border between raw improvisation and 21st-century composition. Following in the lineage of great Bay Area-improvisational music, TREE+0 is a meeting ground for a variety of different musical influences, including free jazz, medieval and renaissance string music, 20th-century classical music, art rock, hip-hop, be-bop, noise, and more! Luke, an impressive jazz guitar player, has also trained formally in the classical tradition. His work shows a dedicated sensibility, at once artful and humane.

“Luke Westbrook is a guitar player, multi-instrumentalist, composer and improviser dedicated to finding his musical voice within an expanding cultural and sonic landscape. Of note in [TREE+0] is drummer Donald “Duck” Bailey—he has recorded and performed with John Coltrane, Jimmy Smith and countless other historic figures in jazz. He is considered by some one of the true founding fathers of avant-garde (pre-Ornette Coleman) modern jazz drumming. —bayimproviser.com
