A fine tenor saxophonist influenced by Joe Henderson, Javon Jackson helps to keep the legacy of Art Blakey and hard bop alive. Jackson was with the last version of the Jazz Messengers (1987-1990) and, after Blakey's death, he worked with the Harper Brothers, Freddie Hubbard, and Elvin Jones. His most recent release Have You Heard (Palmetto, 2005) took a groovy departure into R&B, but this quartet appearance at Yoshi⦣x20AC;™s, featuring Benny Green, Jeff Chambers and Carl Allen; is unquestionably about the jazz.
