Choreographers Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton collaborate in the creation of the world premiere of The Illustrated Book of Invisible Stories, a large-scale work featuring five dance soloists and a Movement Choir comprising 18 dynamic performers in a unique living canvas that will flood the stage with movement, sound and dramatic action in a multi-faceted exploration of individual and collective transformation. There will be a special benefit reception following the April 18 performance.

Following the stunning, sold-out success of their 2008 collaboration StringWreck, which Garrett and Moulton created with the Del Sol String Quartet at YBCA, The Illustrated Book of Invisible Stories will be the two choreographers' second collaboration together, further deepening their association and broadening the ambitious scale of their innovative work.

Using the ephemeral art form of dance to explore non-literal storytelling, The Illustrated Book of Invisible Stories will be a series of movement stories that illustrate themes of individual and collective transformation. Taking place on a large scale, it will repeatedly juxtapose soloists against group, creating visceral dramatic friction of conflict and resolution, tension and release.

The work will be performed to a 3-sided audience with the Movement Choir serving as a fourth wall that is alive with action and image. Envisioned as a three-dimensional, "holographic" book, the stage space will come alive in a progression of dramatic episodes that arise and dissolve-each illuminating and investigating awkward, delicate and bittersweet aspects of the human experience.

Throughout this work the Movement Choir will be a constant, evolving presence using a wide range of movement styles and qualities. Rhythmic vocalization will be incorporated to heighten the sense of the large group as a living, breathing organism.
