The carioca composer Ivan Lins has been a major player on the world stage since 1970, when Elis Regina’s recording of his “Madalena” hit big. His compositions have been widely recorded by Brazilian artists, notably Simone, and have been especially popular with American jazz artists including George Benson, Mark Murphy, Sarah Vaughan, and the Manhattan Transfer, to name just a few. But Ivan Lins is also an emotive singer, first-rate keyboardist, and warmly engaging performer; his shows are pure joy. He comes to Yoshi’s Oakland and San Francisco to celebrate the release of his new CD Saudades de Casa with his awesome band: Marcelo Martins, saxophone; Marco Brito, keyboards; Leonardo Amuedo, guitar; Nema Antunes, bass; and Teo Lima, drums.
