Sardines for dinner?

The New England Aquarium is serving up fresh sardines Oct. 11 as part of the Celebrate Seafood Dinner Series, which introduces guests to ocean-friendly seafood choices.

Joining the Aquarium for this three course dinner is Guest Chef Jeremy Sewall from Island Creek Oyster Bar and Eastern Standard. Sewall and Aquarium Chef Mukesh Ranmarine will lead cooking demonstrations for a menu of sardines, lobster and trout.

“When people think about sardines they usually picture oily fish in a tin, but fresh sardines are a great healthy, sustainable option,” said Heather Tausig, Aquarium’s vice president for conservation. “One of our goals through this dinner series is really to expand our guests’ seafood palate and introduce them to something new.”

The dinner series is part of the Aquarium’s Sustainable Seafood Program which promotes ocean-friendly seafood, encourages the responsible management of fishery resources and provides support to regional and international fishing communities, industries and organizations.

Guests will enjoy a three-course meal with wine pairings and leave the dinner with recipes and tips for purchasing and cooking sustainable seafood. The dinners are held in the Aquarium’s Harbor View Café, Central Wharf, Boston.

Tickets are $65 for members and $75 for non-members. All events start at 6:30 p.m. Call 617-973-5206 or visit www.neaq.org to register and learn more about sustainable seafood.
