A recent resident of New York’s International Studio and Curatorial Program, Montreal artist Isabelle Hayeur is one of this year’s nominees for the Silverstein Photography Annual (SPA). The SPA is part of the gallery’s ongoing effort to provide exposure to emerging artists whose work incorporates the medium of photography. Bruce Silverstein Gallery, with the guidance of curatorial advisor Nathan Lyons, annually invites ten prominent curators to nominate one artist whom each feels deserves the opportunity for further exposure within New York’s cultural milieu. SPA artists will be shown at Bruce Silverstein Gallery through October 11th. “Witty and complex, [Hayeur’s] photographs of domestic architecture and the landscape serve as a metaphor for the culture of mediated experience that marks so much of contemporary life,” says Ann Thomas of the National Gallery of Canada.
