Intellectual Property Strategy

The aim

All businesses have IP and need to make an informed decision as to how to use it best to their advantage. Businesses ignore creating an IP strategy at their peril; at best it hampers the growth of the business and at worst might destroy the value in the businesses’ most crucial asset. This event is aimed at businesses with valuable IP or who are developing valuable IP. This event will allow attendees to:

Understand of the value of IP from an IP Lawyer, an Investor and a successful start up founder
Recognise their IP in all its forms
Exploit, develop and finance their IP to the fullest extent
Understand the basics of copyright, patent and trademark law in the UK
Appreciate the importance of IP strategy
Address the IP issues facing businesses with customers and IP overseas
Ask questions of the speakers and to network with up to 100 fellow entrepreneurs

The speakers

Robert Pocknell, Keystone Law
Robert is an IP specialist with over 20 years experience. He spent 10 years advising music and media clients on their IP and then became General Counsel for 6 years for a mobile phone manufacturer and a further two years working for TomTom as their IP Counsel. Robert now advises a range of businesses on IP issues, from start-up entrepreneurs to multinational companies.

Andy Tait, Pembridge Partners LLP
Andy has more than 20 years experience in developing and licensing both technology and digital content to companies including; Microsoft, Intel, Nokia and ARM, Sony, Taito and LEGO. Andy has co-founded businesses served on the boards of both private and publicly quoted companies in the UK and USA and has also been central to the raising of more than £60m in equity finance. In his current role with Pembridge, he overseas and advises on investment in high growth businesses where creativity and technology meet.

Joining Robert and Andy on the panel will be:

Senake Atureliya is a serial entrepreneur and innovator who has represented the interests of SMEs on patent reform nationally and internationally. He has particular expertise in business process and software patents. His current role is with Pie Finance, an innovative peer-to-peer resourcing platform that takes entrepreneurs from the unproven to the investable.

Simon Daniel is founder and CEO of Moixa Energy. He previously invented/licensed the PDA Folding keyboard, which has sold approx 2m units. He was formerly a Senior Manager with Accenture, where he helped create the global business launch centre practice, helping numerous start-ups and new technologies come to market, and is an evangelist for new technology.
