Introspection and Awakening: Japanese Art of the Edo and Meiji Period, 1615-1912 July 12, 2012

The exhibition features 225 paintings, sculpture, prints, ceramics, and lacquer from the 17th-early 20th century from the permanent collection, which address a variety of themes, including the influence of China and Korea on Japan during this crucial time frame; the role of the artist and pupil and the close association with other artists and patrons; the Japanese life-style and belief structure; and the impact of the West.
