Xuefei Yang has since childhood been a pioneering spirit. She was the first guitarist in China to enter a music school and graduate from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing with a B.A degree; The first guitarist from her country to study classical guitar in the West; and the first guitarist as well as the first Chinese student ever to receive an international scholarship from the Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music for her postgraduate study at Royal Academy of Music (RAM).

During her school years, she played extensively in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Spain, and Australia and gave concert tours in Taiwan, Japan and Portugal. When she was 11 she won 2nd prize in the Beijing Senior Guitar competition being the only child competitor. In 1995 John Williams came to Beijing and was so impressed with her that he gave one of his own Smallman guitars to her. Since 2000, she has been in England studying at the Royal Academy of Music, from where she graduated with distinction. She won the Dorothy Grinstead Prize and received the Principal's prize for exceptional all-round studentship, and was awarded the DIP RAM - the highest performance award conferred by the Royal Academy of Music.

Xuefei has given concerts throughout the UK, Europe, Asia and the United States, at prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Philharmonie Berlin and the National Concert Hall Taipei. She has been broadcast on radio and television programs in different countries, including a successful performance on Radio 3 as part of the BBC Proms. As soloist she has performed with China Broadcasting Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Concert Orchestra.
