International Percussion Festival February 16, 2013

On Saturday, five-member percussion group Pathubate will present their innovative musical rendition which will be accompanied with visual effects and fireworks. Founded in 1999, this Brazilian troupe uses instruments like cans, buckets, large barrels, pans and spare parts of automobiles thereby uniting creativity with Brazilian folk music. Through their workshops and performances, the troupe has always encouraged saving the environment giving out a message that 'sustainability is to go exactly beyond itself and meet the needs of the present without compromising the opportunities of future generations to meet their own needs'.

South African musical troupe Buhle Besintu will present their indigenous traditional performance on Sunday where they will not only create music but perform a traditional dance in colourful costumes. The troupe is known for its power-packed performances which often give a sneak-peek into their culture. Known for weaving poetry into melody, the group dances along with drumbeats and claps. Narration and poetry is employed as elements to weave a story line and provide a historical account, highlighting social, cultural and various other aspects of life in their country.
