Bodiography Celebrates an Emotional Innovation

Bodiography’s main event this season will take place at the Byham Theater on Saturday, February 21st at 8pm with the presentation of Innovation 2009. Performance highlights include the premiere of Artistic Director Maria Caruso’s visually entrancing new ballet set to the music of Pink Floyd. Something About Nothing is an abstract work allowing the audience to invent their own journey for the evening, as the thoughts of a participant undergoing a stress test are projected into movement through the imagination of the choreographer.

Bodiography is also pleased to present to Pittsburgh a new work by choreographer Ilana Suprun-Clyde, former principle dancer with Bat Dor Dance Company and current faculty member at Princeton University. This work marks the first duet for director Maria Caruso and principal dancer Lauren Suflita and beautifully illustrates the process by which we grieve the loss of loved ones. Bodiography is also pleased to present a second new work by world renowned, Tony nominated choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett. Set to the music of Tin Hat Trio, Ms. Taylor-Corbett’s work is inspired by the women of the Dust Bowl who kept their families alive with their ceaseless work and devotion to each other. Choreographed for six women, it explores what they might have felt and how their humor and grit helped them to endure the unendurable.
In addition to the dance offerings, sculptor and photographer Eric Rose will present his sculptures and photography of Bodiography’s principal dancers and a display of his photographs of the entire company. Innovation 2009 is supported by the Heinz Small Arts Initiative and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Tickets are $25-45 with $15 student rush tickets available 1/2 hour before curtain. 412-456-6666.
