A comically dysfunctional cast, a problem-plagued set and a stage manager at his wit's end add to the tension between a writer and his producer-wife in rehearsal for a play about their own struggle with infertility. The world premiere of "In the Wings," a new comedy by Jerry Sroka, opens April 4 at the Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks, where performances continue though May 11. Playwright Sroka plays a supporting role in his semi-autobiographical play-within-a-play, joined on stage by his wife, Mariette Hartley, and his daughter, Liz Sroka. Also in the cast are Greg Bryan, Daniel Hagan, Sean Moran, Annette Reid and Will Schaub.

"We all know someone who has had difficulty conceiving and the toll that can take on a marriage," says "In the Wings" director Don Eitner. "Jerry's play is a comedy, but it has serious overtones. At heart it's a love story."

Performances of "In the Wings" are scheduled Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 3 pm, April 4 through May 11. There is no performance on Friday, April 25 or Saturday, April 26. Preview performances take place on Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29 at 8pm, and on Sunday, March 30 at 3 pm. Tickets to all performances are $25.00, except previews which are $15.00. The Whitefire Theatre is located at 13500 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks (three blocks east of Woodman, at Sunnyslope).
