Mistaken identities, lovers in disguise, an elaborate ruse and, of course, true love. In this commedia dell'arte production, lovely Rosina has two competing suitors-her guardian Dr. Bartolo and the wealthy Count Almaviva. The Count, hoping Rosina will love him for himself rather than for his money and position, disguises himself as a poor student and sets out to woo her, while dodging a suspicious Dr. Bartolo. Luckily, Count Almaviva's trusty ally Figaro helps him deceive Dr. Bartolo and win the hand of Rosina. More disguises, a series of secret meetings and one misdirected letter combine to give everyone plenty to worry about. But in the end, true love conquers all!

This lively, romantic production will be conducted by Merola alumnus, and director of musical studies for the San Francisco Opera Center, Mark Morash. And popular stage director Roy Rallo returns to Merola to direct this opera favorite. The production stars the singers of the Merola Opera Program who were selected from over 800 applicants to participate in this world-renowned summer program.

Presented in the intimate and elegant Herbst Theatre, Il barbiere di Siviglia is perfect for families, opera lovers and opera novices.
