"Ideas & Action: Human Rights in the United States and Boston" Boston Public Library and Old South Church, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. [visit our website http://www.BostonHumanRights.org for more information].

This event brings scholars and activists together to reflect on human rights organizing and thinking in the United States and Boston (see below for an e-mail that we have circulated calling for co-sponsors). The event begins with author presentations from the book: _The Leading Rogue State: The United States & Human Rights_ and is followed by a series of round table conversations on issues ranging from housing and employment through youth and gender struggles.

It has a strong Boston focus while taking advantage of the American Sociological Association annual meeting.

Co-sponsors include Mass-Care, Sociologists Without Borders, the Boston Public Library, Sociology Departments from Boston College, Bridgewater State College and Worcester State College. Among the out-of-town guest speakers are Francis Fox Piven, Shula Koenig and many leading scholars. Local leaders include Ty de Pass, Kim Foltz, Roxan Mackinnon, Aaron Tanaka, Grace Ross, and many others.
