Discovery Green has been a most popular destination in downtown Houston since its opening last April. The Ice at Discovery Green, Holiday Skating on Kinder Lake, presented by the Houston Chronicle, remains open daily through January 19 for ice skaters of all ages.
In keeping with the ongoing themes of supporting the works of local artists and offering free and eclectic entertainment for the public, Discovery Green is pleased to announce a very special event on Saturday, January 10. "Houston's First Annual Magnificent Seven All Out Ice Sculpting”. This competition will pit seven artists competing to create the best ice masterpiece, using seven tons of ice in seven hours.
WHAT: The first annual "Houston's First Annual Magnificent Seven All Out Ice Sculpting at Discovery Green. The public is invited to watch as seven of the top ice carving sculptors in the country create their unique ice sculpture wiith chain saws, blow torches and unrivalled creativity. Each artist must transform one ton of ice into a special creation in just seven hours.

WHO: Acclaimed artists and ice sculptors include Reverend Butter, Gonzo, Buddy Rassmussin, Dan Rebolze, and Dean Demaris.

WHEN: Saturday, January 10, 2009
• 10:00 a.m. - Competition begins
• 5:00 p.m. – Celebrity judges, including Lester Marks, Catherine Anspon and Gonzo of Aerosol Warfare to determine the winning creation and winner of the $2,000 prize
• 6:00 p.m. - Award ceremony on the Anheuser-Busch stage
• 6:15 p.m. – Reverend Butter to perform a 45-minute carving to live music by band Downfall 2012
