I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Off-Broadway’s phenomenal, longest-running musical comedy revue about everything you have ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws but were afraid to admit, is coming to The Playhouse at West Port Plaza, opening July 12.
“This play is about how people connect and disconnect, love and laugh, and play and suffer with love from the cradle to the grave,” says producer Tom Clyde. “It’s got great comedy, music, and some scenes that will break your heart.”
Produced locally by the Bouncy C’s, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change will be directed by four-time Emmy Award winning director, Bobby Miller. “The show is a hilarious roller-coaster ride through every twist and turn of romance since the Garden of Eden,” notes Miller. “It’s Seinfeld meets Annie Hall, with a cast that is not to be missed. If you’ve been dating for three weeks or married thirty years, you’re going to see yourself in it and remember that love and laughter is what life is really about.”
Written by playwright/lyricist Joe DiPietro and composer Jimmy Roberts, the musical director for the St. Louis production of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change is Joe Dreyer, fresh from a 65 week stint with Menopause the Musical. The set is designed by Jim Burwinkel, Chairman of the Fine Arts Department at St. Louis University. Local lighting legend Glenn Dunn is doing the lighting design, while choreography is being handled by Millie Garvey and the costumes are being designed by Reba Saul.

The cast features two actors from Menopause the Musical, Lee Anne Mathews and Rosemary Watts. “We love this theatre, and we want to continue to be part of it,” said Watts. “Plus, this is truly a great play!”
The show also features the husband and wife team of Alan Knoll and Laurie McConnell. Alan has worked in virtually every theatre in the area over the past 20 years. Laurie can be heard weekday mornings on KHITS 98 as the producer of the Morning Showgram with JC Corcoran and John Ulett. Also featured in the cast are St. Louis favorites Chopper Leifheit and Michael Jokerst.
The hilarious I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change has played more than 4,000 performances in New York alone, surpassing the Broadway runs of such musicals as "My Fair Lady," "Annie," "South Pacific," "Oklahoma!," "Grease," "Miss Saigon," "42nd Street," "Fiddler on the Roof," and "Hello, Dolly!" Additional productions of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change have been mounted in more than 400 cities worldwide, grossing over 90 million dollars. Among the cities where the play has been staged are London, Barcelona, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, Prague, and Hong Kong.
The Off-Broadway play has proven so successful that there have been many audience marriage proposals during the run of the show. In fact, the musical touts itself as among most "proposal-friendly” plays around. Fifty-one young men have taken the stage to make a surprise proposal. In all cases, the brides-to-be have happily accepted as the audience roared with approval.
“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” is the first play produced by The Bouncy C’s, who are comprised of Dave Carlow, Tom Clyde, and Paul Winkeler. “We’re very excited, and frightened, sort of like the first time you watch ‘Oprah,’” said Winkeler. Carlow says the name “The Bouncy C’s” is a tribute to legendary songsmith Irving Cohen, who is still writing songs at the age of 104. “He can write a song about anything,” said Carlow. “I saw him write one about a Cam Oil Filter,” added Clyde. “It was very bouncy.”

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change begins July 12 and is scheduled to run over a four week period or longer based upon demand. The play is located at The Playhouse at West Port Plaza, 635 West Port Plaza, Maryland Heights, Mo.
