HOME proudly presents Killa Kela & Disco Shed DJs Live to The Brighton Coalition on Saturday the 15th of January...

Killa Kela

(Real name Lee Potter born in 1979) is an English beatboxer from West Sussex.
Kela began beatboxing in his teens with the 360 Physicals crew. He was discovered by DJ Vadim when he sent a tape of his beatboxing to Vadim’s now defunct label Jazz Fudge. His first release was a mixtape with Mr. Thing called “Antistatic Mouthwash”.

Since then, Kela has been a member of the Isolationists, Rock Steady Crew and The Scratch Perverts. He has also appeared on DJ Vadim’s albums and tours as part of the Russian Percussion project, and appeared onstage with Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, Super Furry Animals, Prince, De La Soul and Plan B. He is considered to be one of the best beatboxers in the world alongside Kenny Muhammad and Rahzel.
His live act incorporates drum & bass, electro and hip-hop stylings, singing, MCing, very realistic vocal scratching, body movements and imitations of popular songs such as “Slave 4 U” by Britney Spears and “Tom’s Diner” by Suzanne Vega. He calls his technique “Multivocalism”, a term coined by longtime artwork collaborator Mark Splinter in 2000. Kela’s crew has performed hundreds of live shows all around the world and are known as “Spit Kingdom”.

Kela released the album “Elocution” in 2005, the follow up to his debut album “The Permanent Marker” in 2002. The Elocution project incorporated ‘The Elysian Quartet’ on strings, backing vocalists Rookwood and Trip, DJ Skeletrik and his producer Spider on keys and vocals. He is also known for a UK advert for “Fruit Pastilles” and regular appearances on TV shows such as “Big Brother’s Little Brother” at this time.

DISCO SHED

Kitsch, cool, and full of character, the Disco Shed was conceived in a moment of garden party madness by club promoters and long time festival goers Peepshow Paddy and Aidan ‘Count’ Skylarkin. Taking inspiration from their actual shed, in which they’d enjoyed one too many parties for their neighbours liking, they set about converting an ordinary 8 x 6 ft Billy O garden shed into the must–have accessory for any self–respecting festival – the Disco Shed!
Completely mobile and needing only a power source, the Disco Shed takes the best elements of modern clubbing but disguises it amongst all the stuff you’d find in your Dad’s old shed, to make a truly unique entertainment space and novel curiosity, guaranteed to intrigue & interest, amuse & amaze at all times.
By day, chill out and enjoy the good–time garden party vibe, with classic garden games, and Jane Fonda workouts. Then dance the night away to top quality DJ sets, with a full light show and live visuals on the shed’s giant rooftop screen.

Over the last 10 years he has made Beat Boxing what it is today and as one of the worlds best, he will continue in this tradition live on the Coalition stage.

Disco Shed have rocked every festival worth going to this summer, to critical acclaim...

"Well... I think I said at the time that the Disco Shed is definitely the best shed that I have ever DJed in! Being a country type, I felt right at home. Having full use of a smoke machine, despite being in the middle of a field, made it clear to me just how far mankind has progressed."
Hint (Tru Thoughts)

"I was reviewing the bands at Latitude on Friday and Saturday for the Guardian but I thought the best thing all weekend was the disco shed!"
Paul Lester, the Guardian Newspaper

"Wonderful"
London Lite

"I spent 7 years practising in my bedroom only to find myself at a festival in a garden shed and I loved it"
DJ Fu
