A great film that's fun for both kids AND adults!

Starring the voices of Frank Oz, Jim Henson, Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire. Guest appearances by Art Carney, Dabney Coleman, Joan Rivers and more! Directed by Frank Oz. 1984 94mins.

Admission: $6 for adults; $4 for kids (12 & younger) and seniors (65+).

If only all performers -- most of whom tend to be human -- were as reliably entertaining as Jim Henson’s troupe of foam rubber, felt and ping-pong ball eyes. In this third Muppet move -- the first directed by Frank Oz and the last made with input from Muppet creator Henson -- the Muppets find themselves in Manhattan struggling to get a musical on Broadway. Of course, kids will love the movie. But so will adults, thanks to a genuinely entertaining plot and the trademark Muppet mix of humor that includes references and jokes that aren’t just kid-stuff (including well-placed jabs at the foibles of show biz). Kermit the Frog and the rest of the gang have just put together a successful variety show at “Danhurst” college (probably somewhere between Amherst and Dartmouth), and decide to try to take it on to the Great White Way. But alas, producers’ doors are slammed in their faces all over town, and so the Muppets are forced to take the usual assortment of dreary day jobs in order to support themselves in the Big City while pursuing their stage dreams. A bevy of star cameos – including Art Carney , Dabney Coleman, Gregory Hines, Ed Koch, and Jonathan Landis, makes things interesting. With its combination of these very human stars, great New York scenery and impressive musical numbers choreographed with more than 100 Muppets, the film is certainly impressive from a technical standpoint. But the real fun in watching it doesn’t come from consciously appreciating how clever the Muppets are. Instead, the genius of the movie comes from how completely it makes you forget you are watching puppets at all.

PLUS – Live organ entrance music (from the Loew’s magnificently restored pipe organ) before most screenings.

Deep in your memory – or maybe it’s only a memory you wish you had – there was one Christmastime when you went to a big old theatre, the kind that looked like a palace, for a special holiday show. They played Christmas carols on the biggest organ you’d ever seen, and the sound was so beautifully intense it practically lifted you out of your seat. Plus you got to sing along to some of the songs. And then you enjoyed a colorful holiday movie on the theatre’s enormous screen.
No matter if this is one of your best memories, or a memory you only wish you had – now you can re-live it!

Saturday, December 11 at 6:30PM

"Scrooge" Starring Albert Finney, Alec Guinness, Edith Evans, Kenneth More. Directed by Ronald Neame. (1970, 118mins., Color)
The dazzling, wide-screen movie musical version of Dickens’ classic tale. The costumes and sets capture the period beautifully, the direction is well paced -- and the acting is superb, most especially Albert Finney in the title role and Alec Guinness as the most memorable Marley the screen has ever had. Charming holiday fun for all ages.
Admission for BOTH concert & film is just $7 for adults; $5 for kids (12 & younger) and seniors (65+).
Late-comers will be seated.
