Pushing the creative envelope for new animation, the inaugural Platform festival held this past June in Portland, Oregon, presented a dizzying lineup of innovative work that ran the gamut from theatrical films and videos to live performance, from installation to animation for mobile phones and the Internet. This selection of highlights offers Los Angeles animation aficionados the rare opportunity to view on the big screen the best and most daring work from the festival. The program showcases new animation by award-winning independent filmmakers such as Don Hertzfeld and Miwa Matreyek, plus work by the acclaimed Luis Cook from Aardman Animations.
