HerPic Performances Augury & Entropy is a thought-provoking program of dance-theatre about present & future tempests: obsessiveness, displacement/home(land) and family ties, climate change; and endangered insects.

Traverse the exuberance of discovery, the anxiety of forced flight, and the emotional terrain of family conflicts over Home, Land, and Homeland in Hertz-Picciotto's work "40 Years." Known for capturing real-world dilemmas-- social, psychological, and environmental, Artistic Director Hertz-Picciotto infuses the stage with rich & lingering visual images, layering evocative movement with familiar gesture and poignant text.

Irva Hertz-Picciotto, Artistic Director of HerPic Performances, has had her choreography produced on the east and west coasts and outside the U.S. Her work incorporates a broad range of physical, vocal, & multi-media modalities as she addresses an array of themes from the underside of mother-daughter tensions to social taboos about mental health and body language, from the nitty- gritty experiences of cancer survivors to the haunting paintings of surrealist Dorothea Tanning ("Dorothea's Doors").

Over the past two years, HerPic Performances has been performing Dorotheas Doors (2006) in showcases and festivals; and Natures Limits (2007) a program of environmental, site-specific pieces in the parks. Works by Hertz-Picciotto have been spotlighted at the Yerba Buena Gardens Choreographers' Festival (2005), the Monterey Emerging Choreographers' Festival (2007), and the Women on the Way Festival (2008), among others.

Of Hertz-Picciottos H-2-Owe (2006), tackling disparity in access to natural resources in Israel/Palestine, Rita Felciano of the San Francisco Bay Guardian commented that the work was ambitious at its best, the choreography effectively suggests parched landscapes - of the region and the soul."

Hertz-Picciotto is a recipient of grants from The Open Circle Foundation, Berkeley Civic Arts Commission, The Puffin Foundation, Inc., The North Carolina Breast Cancer Coalition, Durham Arts Council. More details about the company are at: www.herpic.org
